Friendship

During the summer before my Junior year of High School, my best friend and I got in a serious car accident. (Yes it was the 80's! - Collar up& big hair). I broke my neck and back, collapsed a lung and had road rash up one side of my face. Cheryl broke her collar bone, road rash and had severe head trauma resulting in a week long coma and over a month of hospital rehab. Eventually, we both recovered. But it was an incredibly difficult and emotional time. Our friendship was never the same. We lost touch after High School.

Almost 20 years has passed. In the last month Cheryl and I have gotten in touch again. It's funny that neither of us can really remember exactly what our friendship was like when High School ended. Time does heal wounds.

I'm so grateful for this past four weeks, our emails and conversations. The reconnection of such an important and loving friendship in my life has been a "tender mercy" of the Lord for me. When I spoke with Cheryl this week, her laugh brightened my life. I didn't realize how much I really missed the level of complete comfort in our conversations, her spirit and positive outlook.

Thanks Cheryl for emailing and calling. I feel blessed to have you in my life again and to be part of yours as well.
