Politics

I find myself caught in an Election Year as an undecided Independant Voter. My independant status stems from a general unhappiness with the two party system, general disrespect for a sitting President by the non-sitting party, the over the top sway of the RNC & DNC, empty & impossible election promises and the stupid infusion of Celebrity opinions influencing the political sphere (as if I care one bit who Susan Serandon, Oprah or Chuck Norris votes for each election). I have no interest in party affiliation. I like the responsibility of figuring it out for myself. It's important to me to find out the intricacies of each candidates' platform. The only problem is access to non-biased info. The biases extend from websites, news clips, interviews, radio, written interviews. Does anyone have an unbiased source for detailed information on the platforms for the Presidential Candidates? I'm tired of the same old "spin." I want the bottom line
on actual spending cuts, taxes, programs w/funding, war strategy, foreign policy, social programs, economic policy, budget, school funding, energy, global warming, etc.

My goal this year is to be informed to the last detail on both candidates. No matter who wins, I'll be a proud American because I took an active and informed approach to the vote!

Vote w/Knowledge!

Cathy,
I love your approach and I agree. And I think that I respect both candidates although I don't agree with either of them on all positions. I'm grateful to be able to vote too!

Cathy -

To me, this election is troubling at best. There is a lot at stake here, but I get the feeling that we will be paying for the mistakes that have been made for the past 40 years, rather than the mistakes the incoming president will bring upon himself and upon this nation.

That said, I look to my heart and to my religion to determine which candidate will lead us further towards the commitments and covenants I've made and have pledged my life to uphold. The person, party or platform that comes nearest to those values wins my vote and hopefully wins the day.

About the political parties - like you, I am highly disappointed. Neither really represents me, my family or our ideals. One claims to represent the people, only faltering as they represent the fringe powers that want to destroy the values and integrity of its followers. The other caters so strongly to special interest that there's not much left for you and me.

Yesterday, we spent the day in a place with a large group of people - from all walks of life - and I decided that our country is filled with parents who love there kids and kids who - believe it or not - love their parents. As I saw these people for who they are, I had a sadness that they are not being represented by our elected leaders. I also had a strong hope that these parents would be the ones to rise up and say, "no more."

Just a thought. And a long one at that!

BTW - what are you doing for Thanksgiving?
