Behold Dance Collective & Tapestry

My heart danced with joy when I received an email this past winter from Jennie Smith. Jennie is a friend from our days living in Concord. She received her undergrad in Dance from BYU and is currently the Vice President of Behold Dance Collective. www.beholddance.org

BDC hosts a dance concert each year in the Spring inviting many Bay Area dance companies to join. Jennie decided to choreograph a piece for the concert and asked me to join. I had been praying for something to help lighten my spirit and knew this was it the moment I received her email.
The past couple of months have been a delight. Each Saturday for a couple of hours, 8 dancers met to warm up, learn movement and pull together a modern piece entitled "Lub Dub." It was energentic and fun, fast and light. I struggled to get my muscles and mind to remember modern movements, isolations, and quick response timing but in the end my most difficult thing was remembering the sequences of each set of movement. For a three minute piece, it kicked my butt!

It was worth it! I'm so grateful for Bry's support each Saturday as he took on the remodel plus the kids so that I could tackle this opportunity.

I loved it and hope to dance with them again. Thank you to everyone that came to the Oakland Interstake Center to see the program. I fell in love with a few of the elite professional pieces and ached to improve my technique, tone up and get back to dance.

Just a note - The performance was on our 17th wedding anniversary. My hubby was very sweet to spend the evening at a two hour modern dance concert. In the many years of our marriage, this was the first time he has seen me dance.
